In this episode I am featuring the recording sessions for Elvis’ 1975 album “Today”
It was Elvis’ 22nd and final studio album, and was recorded in RCA's Studio C, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, March 10th–12th, 1975.
The last time he was in Studio C was March 1972, when he recorded the well known hits "Burning Love",Always On My Mind” and "Separate Ways", it also served as the rehearsal venue for the MGM documentary, Elvis on Tour.
In advance of the sessions the studio took delivery of an ivory white Yamaha baby grand piano.
This would be used to great effect on a couple of the numbers recorded during the next 3 days.
March 10th 1975 was a Monday and Elvis arrived at the studio a little after 8pm that evening with his Daughter Lisa Marie and girlfriend Sheila Ryan.
Fans caught a glimpse of Elvis playing with Lisa in the backseat of the Limo as he was driven from his home on Monovale Drive to the studio.
The band were the same musicians he used on stage in Las Vegas & on tour.
James Burton, John Wilkinson on Guitars, Vocals and Guitar Charlie Hodge Bass: Duke Bardwell Drums: Ronnie Tutt ,Glen D. Hardin & Tony Brown on Piano, Clavinet: David Briggs & Greg Gordon
Backing Vocals: Voice
Producer Felton Jarvis & Engineer Rick Ruggieri

Unfortunately, that Tiger Man jam was so much more exciting than anything on the album. Too many ballads for my liking.

Sorry that last msg a but jumbled I meant Elvis was amazing at singing the songs that would help him through his life's the ups and downs. I could not live without music, I like a lot of music with most genres except jazz and rap hip-hop. And I do absolutely love Elvis,he is the best singer in the world, The King and always will be. Thanks Steve for another fantastic podcast 👍👍👍👍👍 xxxxxx

Pieces of life is brilliant as well, I think you can tell I this song how Elvis is feeling, he is usually really good well brilliant. Im sure most fans will hear some of his joy, pain and regret in the songs. We all know music helps us with the bad times, Elvis usually helps me he just soothes my heart & my soul.he was human like the rest of us and made mistakes.

I'm pleased he did I Can Help cos it's one of my favourites, I loved his version of Green Grass of home much better than Tom Jones although I'm not a fan of Tom Jones never have been

The song 'Pieces of my Life' has a special memory for me. The first time I ever heard it I was sat in a cafe one night opposite Graceland where I played it on the jukebox. I sat looking across at Graceland with tears streaming down my face. We (The Elvis fan Club of Great Britain were leaving Memphis the next day. When I heard it just before the tears almost came. It's such a haunting beautiful song. I wonder if he knew he didn't have much longer. I think he did. Sadly that was true.
